Battery of Candeo

Built between World War I and World War II, the anti-ship battery of Candeo is located on the northeastern coast of the island. The battery can be accessed by taking the path that branches off to the south at the very end of the Eastern Ridge (path no. 11).

The need to hide from the enemy led to the creation of distinctive architectural designs and the use of local granite as cladding. The result is a striking landscape, made up of small buildings and towers, blending into the granite rocks. The firing stations, barracks and ammunition stores are interconnected by stairs and tunnels carved into the rock.
